The snow leopard leapt to the ground from a small rock. It had been a while since she had last set foot inside her clan's territory and she was pleased to be back. Strangely enough she felt as though even the ground beneath her feet was welcoming her back. It was softer, the air smelt fresher and everything was clear. With a sigh she padded towards a rocky outcrop that was only sparsely covered in grasses and lay down. From here she could see most of the territory and it pleased her to know this, though she was not sure why.
With a rippling of her musces she stretched out and rolled onto her back, wriggling to get into a more comfortable position. She finally settled on her side, head pillowed by a bit of moss, that seemed to be more like lichen in its rough texture. Slowly her eyes closed, and the company of sleep weighed down on her body. Her stomach was happy with the small, yet staisfying meal of mountian hare, and the lulling sound of wind through the trrees on her homeland did not help to keep her awake.

A solitary snow leopardess made her way across the terra that consisted mostly of tundra with the occasional scattering of boulders and hardy grasses. It was, however, early to mid summer, and thus the temperatures in day were quite barable, even bordering on nice. Thus the almost constant traveling she had done this day and the last did not wear so heavily on the fae as it would have had the season been late autumn or winter. All in all, this was truly a good time for her, for she had just recently been accepted into the Snow Leopard Clan and, though her last hunting endeavor had been unsuccessful, she was generally happy.
While passing back over territory she had already traveled previously in the day, Akemi stopped quite suddenly upon scenting another of her breed carried on ever-persistant the winds. This time it was female in gender, that was determinable from the breeze. Ah! So I am not alone in this place. Excellent. Her thoughts ran along such lines. Scanning the horizon, she picked out the landmark from which the scent was most likely to have come from and changed her clip to approach.
After a time of a few minutes, Akemi reached the general area of the resting leopardess--specifically, about 15 feet from the outcropping. From her removed distance, she could view some of what rested on top of the stone, and found that the unknown fae was either resting or fast asleep. Neither option appealed to Akemi, for it made her next actions all the more dificult to determine. If she were to just call out to the fae and the fae was sleeping and was awoken, she would be in all likelyhood, rather annoyed if not outright angry. If Akemi waited for the leopardess to wake up and the fae found her just sitting there, rampant suspicion would ensue as to Akemi's reasons for just waiting around. And, finally, Akemi could always leave and hope to run into this fae at a later date, though this would rely on fate and luck, and Akemi didn't much want to give up what was currently her only chance at an aquintance and possible friend.
Thus the leopardess decided to wait a few minutes out of respect, so that if the other was only resting and not sleeping, the other would be able to take the innitiative and decide how to procede with conversation and such. She also decided to wait so that if the other was sleeping, she would be able to do so without interuption--at least for a little while. ((Here you may have Verali wake up if you'd like, and the below will never have happened.))
After a few minutes had passed, Akemi decided that she might as well speak up before the other woke up--for it was clear that she was sleeping. Had the other been merely resting, she would have detected Akemi's scent long before. For such preparations, the climax was rather dull. "Hello, good fae!" Her voice was rather over-extended due to the fact that she was trying to wake the sleeping one up.

((We shall say that she was sleeping and that darned Akemi woke her up )) As the voice broke through the air, it also broke through Verali's sleep, though it took her a while yet to realize that it was not in her dream. The passage from waking to sleeping had been such for her that she had not noticed the fact that she was actually sleeping. Her ear twitched as she woke and with a powerful heave, she lifted herself up into a sitting position and looked about. Her eyes were bleary from sleep and she had yet to fully recouperate from her journey outside of the territory, but she found Akemi swiftly enough. Her fur bristled slightly when she saw who and what had woken her, but she did not make any move that seemed remotely threatening. Instead she looked at Akemi with a level gaze, eyes boring through her skin to try and see what lay beneath. "Do you want me for something, or do you simply wake up sleeping leopards to see how fast they can attack you?" Her voice was flat and humourless. Verali was most certainly not impressed, but her anger was not overwhelming and Akemi did not seem to be the kind to wake someone rudely for no reason.

It was unclear to Akemi whether she had actually awoken the other or merely disturbed her, not that it really mattered one way or the--what was she saying? In this world of twisting dangers and hidden deceit, the smallest of details mattered the world. Unfortunalty, it was still indeterminable which of the two had occured. Please cue in mental sigh.
It was with good reason the other fae was angry, yet she also held all the cards in her paws while Akemi was at an obvious disadvantage. This was how she herself had planned it of course, just to make sure that no more rage then was immediately possible could be channeled in her direction. This other had altitude, the dismissal of suprise as an issue, familiraity with the landscape, and most likely was on much better terms with the Leader then Akemi. None of these things really bothered her much, as she planned on avoiding conflict altogether.
Upon hearing the short words given, a few rather witty replies came to mind, but Akemi kept them off her tongue and off her face. "Excuse my ignorance, Miss, but I thought it would interest you to learn of a new prescence in the Clan." She was speaking of herself in the above, and what she said would be good information to give the other so that this other female would not think she was an intruder of some sort. It was hard to read the tone...neutral would be the best in desciption. Perhaps a hint of only the lightest humor if one dug deep enough. Though the humor could be atributed merely to personality and was quite certainly not directed towards the expense of the other.
Akemi not only saw but felt the force of the searching stare given her, yet she worried not for there was nothing that this other might find that she herself wished to keep hidden. "I am Akemi, if it pleases you." She flicked her eyes downwards at the same moment her head was nodded down in a bow--of sorts. It was raised once again soon enough.

With careful patience she waited until Akemi had spoken all that seemed she needed to say, and then, ever so slowy, she let her eyelids slip down over that allseeing stare. When they opened again she was merely looking down at Akemi with humour in her eyes. Verali had conveniently forgotten the rude awakening for this fae was friendly and kind, she had nothing to hide and gave Verali respect that she was due. In return, Verali would let the annoyance slip away. However, her voice remained slightly cool and aloof, Akemi was of the pride, but she was not friend, yet.
"Ignorance? Of what? As far as I know, you have made no error in judgement, nor stumbled into an occupied den. There is nothing ignorant about you Akemi, but for the fact that you would address with respect. My name is not Miss, it is Verali, I much prefer it to any other form of address that anyone could possibly come up with." She smiled and leapt down to join Akemi on lower ground, thus announcing them as equals, neither having the advantage should the other choose to attack, which Verali thought was highly unlikely. "The knowledge of a new presence in the caln is most certainly interesting, however, I have yet to ascertain whether or not that presence is, in fact, interesting." She sat down once more and looked at Akemi, other than waking her up, she had done nothing to show that she was remotely different from any other snow leopard. So far she was proving to be about as boring as Sendatsu and her leader was extremely good at not being overly interesting.
"Akemi, is it? Yes, the name is pleasing to the ear, though I doubt that was your question," she cocked her head to the side in an equivalent of raising one eyebrow. "Now, back to my earlier question. Do you by any chance, want me for something, or do you simply wake up sleeping leopards to see how fast they can attack you? It is an honest question."

Akemi, though nerves had never truly been a hassle unto her, found that she had, just ever so slightly, been tensed as a precaution if the fae before--and still now above her--was of a fouler temper then first suspected, or hoped. The tensing was, indeed, so slight that she hadn't even noticed it's prescence until it was gone. This lead to the assumption that the other also did not notice it, for if the female did, that would be skill so remarkable that she would just have to be seen as some type of a threat. What caused the dissipence of the tensed nature of her body? Why, that that all-seeing stare had been replaced with a glint of light humor, but more so that the fae had brought herself down so both now stood on equal ground and equal terms.
"Ah, well then please except my apology Verali--although it is not an error I could have avoided due to the fact that you had, as of that moment, not yet provided a title with which to address. And to speak unto you and have my words lack the appearance of any title whatsoever, I fear, would have been much more of an error then the one I made." There now was a glint of good humor enough to match Verali's in Akemi's own eyes. Her humor was at a higher level, and it took an advanced mind to see it. She loved this conversation already; this is what she had yearned for all her months as a loner: A conversation both mentally challenging and wit assessing. It was, as of yet, indeterminable whether the other saw it as such. Not that Akemi minded, hear you. To her it was such a conversation regardless of what this Verali thought of it. However, what could stop the 'fun' was if the female before her tired of such word manipulations and went to more 'average' speach. 'Twould be a pity.
Akemi did not have any outstanding qualities, besides her gift of speach if I may be so bold, and thus upon hearing the other's second bit of information--about determining if she, Akemi, was going to be interesting--she felt a little doubted. This Verali must not have many friends if the others in this Clan, if there are any others, are remotely similar to the Leader. She commented inside her own mind. Perhaps Verali wishes for one who is 'interesting' in an active way. She will be dissapointed in me, then, for all I have to offer is words.
"I was merely making my prescence known to you, and if I come upon any others in this Clan I shall do the same for them, or to them, if you prefer. I thought that as this is such a far-reaching terra, it would be best to take the first chance I have to anounce myself rather then waiting for a later date that may never come."

Verali smiled at Akemi, and suddenly there was nothing about her that could have been thought remotely threatening. This leopard was an interesting one to be sure, Verali heard it in the way she spoke and saw it in the way her eyes glinted with humour. The type of mischief these two shared was intellectual, it would not be understood by a mere trickster or joker. To find humour in the two cats' words one would need to look quite closely, past all the rather meaningless and rambling words to the meaning that was woven in the silences between them. Every sentence held many meanings and if one could discern only what was said and not what was truly spoken, then the conversation would have been long winded and boring. It seemed that neither Verali nor Akemi found anything about it to be long winded, and certainly Verali's well hidden enthusiasm dismissed any notions that she might be bored.
"Then, Akemi, I see no reason why you need apologize, for an error made where, if that error were lacking would bring greater stress to both listener and speaker, then it is indeed no error at all. It is then considered courtesy. Strange it is to think that error, courtesy and flattery all arrive at nearly the same thing. Each is simply a ploy and excuse for respect. Thus if respect is delved from error and flattery, to things I do so loathe, then perhaps a title was not what lacked, though I doubt that even I could figure out what was needed when it was neither respect nor title. Perhaps you might plumb those depths with thought and find an answer Akemi?" She paused for a lot of nonsense had just been spoken, though there was a hidden meaning, somewhere in all that blather. Verali herself had a hard time thinking of one when it was she who had spoken, but it was there. An apology for her earlier words and a challenge to Akemi, accepting in turn the one that had been issued by Akemi when she spoke.
"A later date always comes, otherwise there would be no such phrase, and I believe that your presence would have been known to me had you simply alked by and left your trace in the snow and the air. However, you did not wait and thus I remain tired. Much too weary to play word games with a near stranger. Do I not look drowsy, oh one who awkaened me?"
