Large paws carried the cat silently across the ground. Ears swivled, listening for the smallest sound. Sendatsu crouched low to the ground, making minimal movement. Hunting was an art, not a game.
::A large marmot crawled lazily out of it's burrow, unaware of the danger. A group of hares was about, their sentry looking out for predators.::
Sendatsu considered his options. It did not take him long, as the marmot was the obvious choice of prey. He moved slowly and silently; the wind was agianst him, blowing his scent away. Timing his jump carefully, the leopard pounced.
::The marmot had no time to react. Sendatsu landed on its back, breaking its neck with a powerful bite. The frightened hares hurried back to their warren, where they hid deep inside.::
Satisfied with his catch, Sendatsu ate a small chunk of meat, then another. all the while keeping his eyes on the horizon in case another cat came along.

Streak. The wanderer. Always searching, searching for something...
Well, at least the grey lynx knew what he was searching for. But he never told anyone about it. Streak pricked his fur-tipped ears. A snow leopard, there. Just his luck. And he'd scared all the prey away, too.
He glared at the tiger ahead with deep green eyes. Ignoring the fact that the leopard was about 40 times bigger than him, the male lynx padded up to this huge creature. "Ello, leo!" he said, "Got some food, eh? Why'd you scare all the prey, than?" Streak knew that the answer was obvious; with the snow leopard's attack on the pathetic marmont, the hares had run for their safety.
But the lynx was playing dumb. Better to let the enemy think you were stupid than let them know you were smart.

Sendatsu looked up at the oncoming Lynx. He knew from experience that Lynx were tricky, clever creatures, that were not to be laughed at for lack of power, but highly respected for their wit and inteligence. He learned never to disrespect any creature, least it belong to a powerful clan that wished to start a war. "Greetings brother Lynx," he greeting, tone serious but non-threatning, "Indeed I have a bit of food, as it would appear that the godded Rikuanu has smiled down upon me and my hunt. As for the hares, I apologize for any inconvinience, but they acted upon their own free will and deemed the meadow unsafe and retired to their warren."
He smiled a half-smile at Streak, "However me feeling sorry for your misfortune, I invite you to share in my meal, there is plenty for two." this, of course, was a lie. The marmot was barely big enough for himself, let alone himself and another. However a half-empty stomache was better than a war between clans. Lynx were known to be vengeful, and if this stranger belonged to a powerful clan, he would b sure to report to the leaders of Sendatsu's arrogance, which may anger them. It was best to play it safe and observe the strange lynx for warning signs of deception.

Streak's eyes widened, and he took two steps backwards. Never had he been offered such a thing. "Err...no, thank you...sir," he said, "I can hunt very well, thank you, and there's no need to give away food like that!" The lynx shook his head. No, he was not going to say he wasn't in a Clan.
Trickery. Wasn't his specialty, but it could come in usefull. He didn't even know the leopard yet. "My name's Streak," said the male lynx, "And you are?"

Sendatsu stood, raising his head slightly, "I am Sendatsu." he said, "Many know me as the leader of the Snow Leopard clan. It's a pleasure to meet you, might I ask if you belong to the Clan of the Lynx?" if this cat was a loner, then there wouldn't be a need for such politness. Of course, Streak could lie both ways. But that was a thought for when the answer came. The dead marmot lay at the Leopard's feet and he placed one paw on it as if to say "My offer is still open, but don't even think about stealing the entire prize."

Streak cocked his head. Lie or tell the truth? The loner knew that leopards could easily kill lynxes, or drive them away, but...play it safe or play it stupid? He could always lie, but yet there would always be a cache when the enemy could make you blurt out information...
"I don't belong to the Clan of the Lynx," Streak readily said, "And I have no need for you prey, either." The lynx noticed Sendatsu's paw on the marmot. "It is a great honor to meet you, O great leader..." The male grew tense, ready to leap away.

A high pitched whistle came down to the two cats from a ways above them, and slowly a white form began to materialize above them. Verali didn't mind hunting so far up the mountain, but she preferred to eat her kills lower down if she could. Her thick tail waved behind her as she leapt down from rock to rock, her movements graceful and fluid even with the heavy carcass of a hare in her jaws. This catch had been a difficult one, the prey was already worried because they had caught the scent of the two predators, but she had managed it.
As she came close to the two males she set down her food and crouched over it. She didn't want to simply walk by, the two were powerful enough to take it from her. Besides she knew one of them already and wasn't truly worried about her leader taking her food, he was too proud. She nodded her head towards him, "Sendatsu." She spoke in greeting, then turned to Streak and nodded as well.

Sendatsu was about to respond when he heard another. Whipping his head around to face the unknown body, his ears pirked. He soon relaxed, as it was a member of his own clan. "Verali," he began, "It is good to see you again. I see Rikuanu has brought you success in your hunt, as she did mine. It would seem we are doing something right for her to bless two hunts." a faint smile appeared on the Leader's face; Verali was one of his Trusted...a rare position to achieve in his clan. She had been Watched for quite a while, but had proven herself at last.
He turned to Streak, "I have been talking to this Lynx for a while," he said to Verali, "And he has just informed me he does not belong to the Lynx clan. I suppose than means we will have to wait for the next full moon to hear of the other clans' wellbeing." the smile faded, "It is always wise to join a clan. Clans provide protection, shelter, strength. You should consider it, Brann is a powerful Leader, and even I feel humbled by his presense." his thoughts strayed to the Lynx leader, and he was glad they were on peaceful terms with each other.

ooc- I think it quite funny how in this thread Cas is rping a leopard and Tanette is rping a lynx... look very closely at the avvies Teehee "Sendatsu, you would be the last person I'd ask on the pros and cons of joining a clan. You love yours too much to give any cons." She pulled her lips back slightly in a catlike smile then turned to the lunx, "Of course all of his points are true. Tell me, does this Lynx have a name?" She lookd closely at him, then lowered her head and picked up the hare she had caught, leaping down from her perch to be at a level with the two males. Letting the carcass fall from her mouth she sat beside it, and turned her light grey eyes back to Streak, waiting for an answer. Her ears flicked towards Sendatsu in a welcome to be the first to take a bite of her kill. If he did, she knew it wouldn't be large as he had his own, and was only now remembering that it was easier to offer and be turned done, than to not offer and be punished for it. Delictely, she draped her thick tail over her front paws, never once did she take her cool gaze from Streak's.

((lol Yeah I noticed that xp))
Streak made a face at the new leopard. "'Course I have a name!" he said snappishly, "It's Streak!" Then he thought, Was it wise? Of course, he was thinking about the fact that he had just given away his name to two leopards, who could possibly be enemies.

Sendatsu shook his head at Verali, "No no," he said, "I wouldn't think of taking a bite of your meat when I have my own." he smiled a half-smile at Streak, "It in't wise to sap at people you don't know." something along the lines of what he would say to a member of his own clan, but far less harsh. He turned to Verali once more, "By the way, is tonight not the full moon? I do wonder where Annika has gone. It's not my place to scold a healer, but if she is late to another meeting..." he didn't bother finishing his sentence. One time Annika had indeed been late, the other healers--as well as Rikuanu herself--were not pleased.

Streak snorted. He had a deal in mind for these leopards, but should he tell it to them? He began to think. "Hmmm..." he murmured aloud. Then he laughed nervously, trying to draw attention. His tricks worked like this: draw attention, blurt it out, then act like nothing happened.

"Thank you then," she bent over her kill then back up at Sendatsu as he spoke to Streak, "Truly, I do not mind the tone so much as his words. I know that everyone has a name, I merely wished to know what yours was Streak, no need to insult my intellligence." With that said she took a large bite from the hare. It was not yet growing stiff, and the blood still sat well in the veins. Now it oozed out of where she had bit it onto the ground. After chewing her meat and swallowing she lapped it up as though it were water and licked her lips. Only a slight stain of red covered her muzzle, now, and it wouldn't get much worse as the hare was small.
As she took another bite, Sendatsu spoke and she nodded, "Annika should not be late," the way she said it was as though she was absolutely certain, when truly she had no idea. She did however, have faith in the healer of her clan. The lynx seemed to think something was funny, Verali did not remember having heard or said anything that would cue laughter. Her light, storm grey eyes turned to look closely at him and they seemed to look right through him. It was awhile before she spoke. "Streak, you find something to be amusing? Pray share it with us two."

Streak smiled slyly. "I have a deal for you to," he said confidently, "I wish to become a double-agent with the lynx Clan." Then, the lynx fell silent. Time to act dumb. He snickered quietly, before licking a paw.
((Icky post.))

Verali blinked slowly as though his statement had barely startled her, then turned her eyes to Sendatsu, he was the one who would make the final choice, but so long as she could speak, she would, "And what makes you think that we need a double agent? Brann is an honourable leader and I do not think we would have any need of your help. Being a double-agent, helps us, but puts you in danger. What is it you think you'd be getting out of it?" Her eyes narrowed as she looked at him. Personally she did not trust him, anyone who offered themselves as a double-agent could not be all that trustworthy, and she did like the quiet snicker that she had heard after he spoke. Verali's tailtip twitched behind her as though she were hunting, and with her eyes on Streak it could easily be that she was beginning to think him prey.
